Ugh

So many ups and downs with this doll I'm getting dizzy! So often I see how apparently effortlessly artists make their dolls, but I suffer and trudge along through every step. And yet I am compelled to keep going. If it takes a year, I will finish this doll. It's competing right now with lace. Lace is less risky and, I have to admit, a bit more fun. But the whole point of my lace is to make it into clothing for my dolls. This weekend, however, I started comtenplating the idea of sewing for Kish's 16" dolls. I've always thought that doll was the ideal. I don't really like the new articulated 14" dolls, although I did sew for them for several months. I felt this pain because I wasn't sewing for my OWN dolls. But would I feel the same sewing for the 16" girls? My brain is a flurry of emotions lately.

  1. Don't worry about a doll taking a long time. Some will be all finished in a flurry of breathless activity and some will take years. It's your doll and the doll itself isn't putting pressure on you. It will wait. Some of mine have waited ten years...

  2. Oh! And I love Helen Kish's dolls. Can't afford one, but I found a cheat. The American Girl company commissioned Kish to design a historical doll, Girl of Many Lands. They weren't a commercial success and I finally bought one on Ebay, yesterday. I'm so excited!

    1. I had all those dolls! They were so beautiful, every one of them. I loved the ethnic diversity and the beautiful costumes with tiny little perfect shoes. I also really liked the age the dolls represented. I had a HUGE Kish collection but had to sell all of it. I have only five left, plus a 14".

    2. Oh! Hold on tight to them! I already have the French girl(Cecile?) complete with her fan and gown and yes, the lovely shoes. And, after some wating and watching, I found an Isabella, no shoes, no box, but as I'm after the doll to dress and play with, I'm not too worried. Please will you be my source of Kish information? I don't know how the size of the AG dolls compares to her other little dolls.

    3. I don't keep up much with Kish anymore. I don't follow any of the Yahoo groups or take her newsletter. Sometimes I check www.denverdoll.com to see what they have. I'm just really not interested in jointed dolls, and that's all she makes now.
